WORKING WITH NCCN

You will find NCCN different in many ways:

Flexibility - rotas are arranged around your availability. All we ask is that you work alternate weekends. Most of our work is during difficult times of the day for our Service Users i.e. in the morning when getting up and starting the day, lunch and tea time, and at bed time. Your Area Manager will make sure we can meet your needs.

Induction - our general induction is in line with the Common Induction Standards, and is flexible. We give 3 days 'classroom' sessions, then you will work with an experienced member of staff until you feel that you are ready to go out on your own. Your induction group then meets up again - usually in about 4 weeks - to discuss how you are getting on. This is a really important session as everyone can bring back any problems they are having and share the 'good times'. We see Induction as being an ongoing process and if you are working in our complex service, or have a Service User who has specific needs, we will make sure that you are confident and have a good understanding of those needs. We will never expect you to do anything you are not sure of. And, a senior member of staff is on duty 24 hours a day if you need any advice. We also meet with you frequently to make sure that everything is going well with you and to give you the opportunity to discuss any worries you may have.

We have THREE different teams - as well as general domiciliary care, we also provide complex care services for people who have physical disabilities and for those with learning disabilities.

SO - IF YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE YOU CAN WORK AT A HIGH LEVEL AND EARN A HIGHER RATE OF PAY BY JOINING ONE OF THE SPECIALIST DISABILITY TEAMS

If you do you could be involved with the discharge of a patient from a hospital setting, perhaps providing part of a 24 hour care package, or working with a young adult who has challenging behaviour because of a learning disability. You may be working with someone who has moved into his or her own home (Independent Supported Living) after living in a residential setting and this is particularly rewarding as you see your Service User growing in confidence with your input.

The specialist services are unique in the area and are all supervised by qualified nurses, training is provided to enable you to meet the needs of the Service User, so you may be working with hospital nurses prior to discharge and receiving training from hospital specialist staff.

NEW TO CARE? - Excellent!

A very good place to start. Whatever age you are, we would love to hear from you. Young and old all have something to offer and it is so rewarding to have a job where you can really make a difference. You will have special support and training to make sure you are confident and competent. This could be the start of a whole new career - lots of people go on to nurse or social work training after working with NCCN - we are pleased to help them on their way.

We particularly welcome STUDENTS!!

If you are a student nurse or social worker, work with NCCN offers flexibility to fit around lectures etc and allows you to gain experience and earn whilst doing so! We are a training organisation and provide work placements for student nurses who are doing the Learning Disability arm of Adult Nursing. However, students from any discipline who want to work to help finance their study are very welcome!
